Abstract

PROJECT SUMMARY/ABSTRACT: OUTREACH, RECRUITMENT & ENGAGEMENT CORE The Outreach, Recruitment, and Engagement Core (ORE) Core of the Goizueta Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (GADRC) at Emory University under the leadership of Monica W. Parker, MD and Cornelya Dorbin (co-leader), will continue highly successful outreach and engagement activities supporting the needs of the GADRC and broad priorities of the ADRC network as specified in RFA-AG-24-001.The ORE Core has emphasized the engagement, recruitment, and retention of African American (AA) individuals in Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and AD-related disorders (ADRD) research for over a decade. We build on a foundation of an academic-community partnership, the Registry for Remembrance Community Coalition (RfRCC), established in 2008.The ORE Core shares the GADRC’s central theme – discovery of new biomarkers and pathogenic mechanisms that explain pathological and clinical heterogeneity of AD and related disorders to enable greater precision in early identification, intervention, and, ultimately, prevention of disease – and supports GADRC and national priorities to lead efforts expanding meaningful engagement of a diverse population of research participants. In the next funding period, the ORE Core build on our successful Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) strategies and innovative approaches to: 1) sustain and promote participation by African Americans and expand engagement of other URM communities in AD/ADRD research; 2) promote education, outreach, and engagement activities in diverse communities and develop ethical and equitable partnerships; and 3) partner with the Clinical and Lifestyle Empowerment Cores to disseminate educational and outreach activities across Georgia and into clinical practice.
