Racial and Ethnic Differences in Emergency Medical Services Interventions for Out-of-Hospital Cardiac Arrest

PROJECT SUMMARY Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is a significant public health concern, affecting approximately 347,000 Americans each year, with a survival rate to hospital discharge as low as 9.0%. Although Black and Hispanic patients exhibit lower survival rates than White patients, the reasons for the health disparities remain unclear. This proposal aims to evaluate racial and ethnic differences in emergency medical services practices during cardiac arrests in order to identify specific areas in prehospital care that can be improved to mitigate these health disparities following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
