Midcareer Investigator Award in Patient-Oriented Research in Pediatric Asthma

The candidate is currently a Professor of Pediatrics and Environmental Medicine and Climate Science at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and a clinical investigator and epidemiologist whose research investigations are thematically linked through their focus on delineating prenatal and postnatal determinants of asthma and lung function to inform efforts to increase protective exposures, decrease adverse exposures, and inform prevention efforts. Prenatal and early childhood environmental exposures have the potential to have lifelong effects on respiratory health. The candidate's current patient-oriented research investigations include prenatal exposures such as maternal nutritional exposures and air pollution and she proposes to expand to investigations of multilevel postnatal environmental exposures and child asthma in novel cohorts. The candidate has developed a plan to increase and strengthen her skills in both patient-oriented research and mentoring through expansion of formal research mentor training efforts. The candidate proposes a mentoring plan for trainees to facilitate their effective transition from junior clinical investigator to independent investigators.
