Abstract

Core C – Administrative Core Thomas Jefferson University (Penn, PI) Project Summary Core C is the administrative core for the PPG program and resides within Thomas Jefferson University (TJU). Dr. Penn, the Program PD and Vice Chair of Research, Department of Medicine, will serve as Core C PI. Core C will support the Program goals by coordinating the fiscal services and scientific communication among institutions, projects and cores, and by ensuring quality control and dissemination of research among Program investigators and to the broader scientific community. Core C has 3 Specific Aims. Aim 1 addresses the administrative requirements of the Program. These services will be provided by dedicated business, secretarial, and research personnel who currently work with Dr. Penn in TJU’s Center for Translational Medicine. In Aim 2, Core C will facilitate and coordinate the scientific interactions and communication among the individual components of the PPG program. These include state- of-the-art videoconferencing, electronic laboratory notebook access (all institutes have LabArchives) and scheduling/coordinating work in progress and steering committee meetings. Aim 3 will coordinate peer review of scientific progress and ensure quality control/accountability for all data and research products. This will be accomplished through semi-annual meetings with: 1) the internal advisory board consisting of 3 senior investigators from TJU and one from Rutgers University; and 2) the external advisory board as comprised by NHLBI. Quality control and accountability for all data and research products will be further ensured by a dedicated scientist responsible for oversight. Core C is critical to ensure the efficient functioning of the project and will facilitate maximum scientific productivity of the program.
