Core B: Community Outreach and Engagement Core

ABSTRACT – COMMUNITY OUTREACH AND ENGAGEMENT CORE Effective community outreach and engagement (COE) is essential for addressing endometrial cancer (EC) disparities, given the multi-level influences of person-, neighborhood-, and region-specific risks on EC outcomes. Contributors to EC disparities, broadly and in North Carolina (NC), include disparities in stage of diagnosis, receipt of diagnostic procedures and treatment in compliance with current national guidelines, and aggressive histologies. The COE Core aims to reduce health disparities in EC incidence and mortality by thoroughly assessing the EC burden and disparities in the NC catchment area, infusing patient and community perspectives into EC research, raising awareness about EC and the importance of biospecimen donation, and disseminating SPORE findings throughout NC. The COE Core will support the Admin Core, individual projects and larger SPORE effort in integrating community and patient perspectives, as well as broader community and provider perspectives, in all aspects of the research and research dissemination to ensure that impact is maximized in our catchment area and beyond. This work will be pursued by an established, multidisciplinary team in collaboration with experienced patient and community advocates.
