Abstract

SUMMARY – ENRICHMENT PROGRAM The objectives of the Houston Nutrition and Obesity Research Center (H-NORC) are fourfold: (1) to establish a collaborative infrastructure for scientists to pursue obesity and nutrition research; (2) to provide H-NORC members with exclusive access to core services, cutting-edge equipment, and specialized expertise; (3) to assist emerging scientists in developing robust research programs focused on obesity and nutrition; and (4) to disseminate research findings within the H-NORC community and beyond. To achieve these goals, we aim to educate and inspire students, postdoctoral fellows, physicians, and seasoned researchers to the H-NORC community. The Enrichment Program is designed to advance these goals through several initiatives: (1) disseminating current research in obesity and nutrition; (2) fostering collaborative interactions between members of the H-NORC community including scientists and clinicians; and (3) supporting the scientific and professional growth of H-NORC members. This will be accomplished through a series of events including the weekly H-NORC Research Seminar Series, the monthly Nutrition and Obesity Workshop (NOW), and the annual Houston Obesity and Nutrition Symposium, H-NORC Core Research Workshops, and various Career Development Initiatives. Many of these activities are already in motion and will be integrated into the H-NORC Enrichment Program, with expansions planned to better serve the community. Several new activities will also be developed and implemented. Collectively, these efforts will build a comprehensive program that nurtures the growth of obesity and nutrition research by empowering the scientists at its core.
