Administrative Core

ABSTRACT The success of the UTEP Border Biomedical Research Center (BBRC) hinges on its Administrative Core (AC), serving as the central hub for day-to-day operations and coordination of program projects and cores. Committed to superior financial management, the AC also minimizes redundancy and leverages UTEP's resources to provide an integrated infrastructure, while also promoting collaborations with other Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMIs). The AC's mission includes leadership and oversight, involving the coordination and supervision of proposed research, along with the integration of external and internal advisory committees. Additionally, the AC provides administrative support for BBRC programmatic activities and infrastructure, including faculty development, community engagement, and recruitment; and enhances growth through mentoring and workshops within the biomedical research ecosystem. Responsible for overseeing the U54 RCMI award and supplemental award funds, the AC ensures compliance with regulations and responsible conduct of research. It also disseminates BBRC information and facilitates collaborations within UTEP as well as the RCMI Coordinating Center (RCC). The AC monitors progress through external evaluators and the utilization of appropriate metrics for cores, research projects, and advisory committees. In summary, the AC manages the Center, and functions as a hub for interactions with UTEP’s administration, collaborators, the NIH and other RCMIs. With seasoned leadership and effective strategies, the AC aims to support and enhance institutional capacity in biomedical research, especially in areas related to Hispanic Health Disparities.
