NCCAT: National Center for CryoEM Access and Training

Project Summary/Abstract The National Center for CryoEM Access and Training (NCCAT), based at the New York Structural Biology Center, provides access to state-of-the-art cryo-electron microscopy (cryoEM) equipment. The equipment and services include high-end microscopes with direct detectors, screening microscopes, specimen preparation robots and other ancillary equipment required to solve structures to the highest possible resolution using cryoEM methods. A highly qualified technical team provides direct support, guidance and assistance, ensuring the highest quality structures are resolved quickly and efficiently. A cross-training program offers training to users across the full spectrum of skill levels and career goals. This request is for supplemental funding to purchase Gatan BioContinuum energy filters to extend the capability of our 300-keV Titan Krios cryo-transmission electron microscopes (Krios#3 and Krios#4) for data collection supporting state-of-the-art high- resolution data collection services. Thereby, this instrumentation will benefit all users of center by increasing the capability and capacity of these instruments and provide outstanding training opportunities to the next generation of biomedical scientists. NCCAT has a proven track record of maintaining various high-end imaging systems, strong institutional support, and a large user base, guaranteeing that the instrumentation will be used to its maximum potential for years to come.
