Introducing Neuroscience and Neurocomputation Concepts to High School Students using Brain-based Neurorobots

PROJECT SUMMARY Backyard Brains seeks a Technical and Business Assistance (TABA) supplement to its SBIR Phase II project that is delivering the SpikerBot neurorobot and curriculum for high-school neuroscience. This supplement will address final commercialization barriers by (i) validating target customer segments through structured Jobs-to-Be-Done interviews and comprehensive persona analytics, (ii) producing professional-grade video, photography, persuasive campaign copy, and ad creatives optimized specifically for a Kickstarter launch, and (iii) generating a robust, qualified pre-launch audience list through precisely managed, data-driven media A/B testing. All proposed activities will be executed by specialized external vendors during a potential one-year no-cost extension period beginning 1 September 2025, or compressed appropriately if no extension is granted. Success criteria include securing at least $200,000 in Kickstarter pledges at a $399 unit price, compiling an email list of 8,000 validated leads, and publicly releasing polished, market-ready campaign assets. No human-subject research or vertebrate animals are involved, and no indirect costs are charged. These externally contracted activities are outside the scope of the parent award and directly align with NIH SEED’s objective to translate SBIR-funded innovations successfully to market.
