Conference: Hydrogeophysics Workshop of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and American Geophysical Union

The Hydrogeophysics Workshop, jointly convened by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists and American Geophysical Union, fosters multidisciplinary discussions and collaborations among near-surface geophysicists and a broad set of earth scientists who image and study groundwater. The workshop aims to highlight future research challenges and opportunities in hydrogeophysics and facilitate future collaborations. The workshop also addresses how to promote translational research in hydrogeophysics to address pressing societal issues relating to water. Hydrogeophysics has emerged as an effective approach to image and study groundwater in the shallow subsurface. This approach has also expanded into other earth science disciplines. The application of hydrogeophysics requires techniques and practices that are unique in hydrologic science and near-surface geophysics. The workshop addresses the substantial recent advances in hydrogeophysics, including computational methods, emerging geophysical technologies, and new applications that have the potential to transform the field. Participants from a broad swath of career stages, disciplines, and locations will share developments in all aspects of hydrogeophysics and identify future directions and research priorities. Workshop findings will be widely disseminated through a white paper. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the Foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.
