Conference: CASC-NSF Community Summit: Ensuring a Sustainable National Strategy for Computing Educational Transformation and Infrastructure

This project led by the Coalition for Academic Scientific Computation (CASC) is for a one-day workshop in mid-March in the Washington DC area. The objective is to convene a meeting with leaders and representatives from academia and academic partners to strategize how to partner with industry, philanthropy, and federal and state governments to support educational transformation that leverages computing and data infrastructure. The infrastructure includes the resources, expertise, and people needed to provide for educational transformation and research that are critical for US competitiveness, and a world-class educated workforce both now and in the near future. The intellectual merit of the workshop includes a unique formulation seeking national participation; the workshop includes a set of five goals and outcomes resulting in a report to NSF. Broader Impact is tied directly to potential activities resulting from this workshop in strengthening access to national-scale distributed computing resources with regional and state-level engagement and coordination. The scale of investments by industry in AI and HPC computing infrastructure is expected to be significant, and will prepare the next generation of fundamental and applied research to drive economic growth and national competitiveness. This award reflects NSF's statutory mission and has been deemed worthy of support through evaluation using the Foundation's intellectual merit and broader impacts review criteria.
