Request for Information (RFI) on Identifying Basic Research Challenges to Accelerate United States Biotechnology Leadership

DOE seeks input on critical basic research challenges, bottlenecks, and missing capabilities needed to transition from descriptive biology to predictive biosystems design. This RFI solicits perspectives on advancing foundational science across biomolecules, cells, microbiomes, and plants to accelerate the production of bio-advantaged fuels, chemicals, and materials. Feedback is specifically requested on fundamental biodesign goals, high-priority biotechnology application areas, and effective collaboration models to help guide BER's strategic priorities, workshop planning, and future funding mechanisms.
