Abstract

ABSTRACT: DATA MANAGEMENT AND ANALYSIS CORE (DMAC) The Data Management and Analysis Core (DMAC) provides critical support for UNC-SRP researchers to manage, analyze, and disseminate data related to the theme, “to protect vulnerable populations from arsenic- induced disease using mechanistic and translational solution-oriented research.” The goal of the DMAC is to facilitate the data management, sharing, integration, and analysis needs of UNC-SRP researchers to elucidate multi-factorial determinants of iAs-induced metabolic dysfunction/diabetes. The DMAC is housed the UNC Department of Statistics, Department of Environmental Sciences and Engineering, and the Renaissance Computing Institute, representing programs that are uniquely suited to lead in data management, statistical analysis, integration, and dissemination of findings produced from the UNC-SRP team of Projects and Cores. All researchers across the UNC-SRP work closely with the DMAC for data science, statistical support, bioinformatic analysis, visualization, and dissemination needs. The DMAC is uniquely fitted to facilitate the data management and analysis needs of Biomedical Projects, generating a broad suite of data types that includes iAs-associated genomic and epigenomic signatures, bacterial presence/abundance in the gut, and phenotypic outcomes. The DMAC has additional data management and analysis expertise to guide Environmental Projects, to analyze iAs levels in NC, geospatial factors of iAs prediction mediators, economic analysis projections, and metrics of iAs reduction via water treatment. The DMAC will provide training with the Research Experience and Training Coordination Core (RETCC) for the management, analysis, and dissemination of these diverse data types, in close collaboration with the Community Engagement Core (CEC) to promote community feedback and engagement in action. Specific aims of the DMAC include: (1) Implementation of the UNC-SRP-wide comprehensive Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Plan to include high quality data generation and systems that foster sharing and interoperability; (2) Support of UNC-SRP research activities by applying state-of-the-art bioinformatic and biostatistical approaches within each Project; (3) Integration and dissemination of data across UNC-SRP Projects to elucidate risks of iAs exposure and disease mechanisms. Together, the DMAC provides the UNC-SRP with essential expertise in data management, bioinformatics, statistics, data integration, and dissemination that contribute to the team fulfilling its mission to develop new solutions for iAs reduction and disease prevention through mechanistic and translational research.
